PTA FINANCIAL TRAINING
REMINDER: All PTA Treasurers and one additional board member are required to complete the annual financial training.
Training Opportunities will be posted here as they become available.
Please contact email@example.com if you need training.
MONTHLY DUES PAYMENTS
Your unit should be submitting dues payments to National PTA and PTA Council on a monthly basis. The dues form for National can be found on www.fspta.org/membership. This should serve as a reminder to make your Council dues payment, too. Click here for our dues payment invoice!
REQUEST FOR FINANCIAL REVIEW AUDIT
PT(S)As should be completing their Financial Reviews during the Summer. If you are unable to form an Audit Committee within your own PTA and need Council assistance, please contact the Council Treasurer.
Please remember to send a copy to MD PTA at firstname.lastname@example.org and to Council at email@example.com. These should be completed by October 31st.
When we refer to the term “audit”, it is simply a detailed review of your financial records, rather than the formal legal certification of books that major corporations run. The financial review verifies the numbers, ensures accuracy, and assesses procedures. Furthermore, the review gives closure to the treasurer and sets a starting point for the new year’s activity.
With the passage of House Bill 232, effective July 1, 2013, PTAs will no longer need to charge sales tax when fundraising items are sold or re-sold by PTAs (like gift wrap, pizza kits, or spirit wear), in which funds from sales are deposited into the PTA account and paid out to a vendor (if applicable). Some vendors will ask you for a ” Blanket Certificate of Resale” (in order to relieve them of responsibility to charge you sales tax). Please ask PTA Council if you need help filling this out. PTAs must pay sales sales tax when they buy items for their own use such as in a cultural arts program or for their own office supplies. (PTAs are independent organizations and are not authorized to use the school tax number)
